[GRASS5] compiling CVS version

I'm trying to do a local compile of the CVS grass. I keep getting
GISGEN failures at the first step, man. First it was complaining
about --exclude options on tar and then it just died with no messages.

I used -skip to get past that, and it seems to be compiling now.

Now I get these messages on every file it compiles:

No such file or directory
*** Error code 2 (bu21) (ignored)
cfe: Error: /disk56/grass.src/CVS/grass/src/include/gisdefs.h, line 278: Syntax Error

What's this __attribute__ suppose to do?

concerning tar I recommend to use the GNU-tar:
ftp://ftp.uni-hannover.de/pub/mirror/gnu/tar/
ftp://prep.ai.mit.edu/pub/gnu/tar/

Some other bugs will be fixed soon which may help
you.
