[GRASS5] GRASS 5 beta 8 to be published this week

Dear developers,

if you agree, we should publish GRASS 5 beta8 by
Wednesday this week.

Is this o.k. with you?

I will prepare the Linux binaries and build them on Wednesday
morning. But we need volunteers for
- SGI
- Solaris
- DEC/Alpha64

If possible, please build the binaries from CVS on Wednesday to
store them on the GRASS web site. You can anonymous ftp to

ftp 130.75.72.14 (that's the WWW here)
cd incoming

Note: This directory is *write* only.

Thanks!

  Markus

G'day Markus,

Can you give an announcement on Wednesday so I know which part of
Wednesday you mean? I get to Wednesday before most of you, being
in Australia.

I've a CVS copy on DEC/Alpha for Debian GNU/Linux 2.2 beta, which
I can run a compile against. I can also compile on Compaq Tru64 UNIX
4.0E on another Alpha. Do you need both or just one?

How do I package the binaries for returning to the web server?
(There may be a Makefile target, I have not looked yet)

Hi developers, Hi Markus,

is the problem with the void pointer arithmetics in segment lib (file
get_row.c) solved?

What about compiling on IRIX? Has someone succeeded in compiling beta8
from CVS on IRIX? I had no luck and got no response until now.

Sorry, i am busy with other projects right now so that i am not able to
verify my changes for datum support. Everything is ready for release,
but i couldn't run a test with known data/verify against another
implementation.

I would propose to wait some more days so that we can incorporate some
more fixes in beta8.

Another observation: The d.mon -L bug only occurs on Linux, on IRIX
everything is ok. I read the code and experimented with it, but i
couldn't find the problem. This is something for the signal
specialists/system programmers from BSD and SYSV.

cu,

Andreas

Hi James, hi all,

sorry for being not clear:
I think of Wednesday, 26 August. Preferrably German daytime as we
are in the middle of Australia and U.S.

Well probably both. I am not shure if I (and the mirrors) have enough
space to store two ALPHA versions. What do you recommend?

How do I package the binaries for returning to the web server?

I am just adding:
  make srcdist

(I can make the src package)
and
  make bindist

Perhaps someone can try this bindist target if o.k.

Coming soon...

Markus

My dear. Shure (it seems I am looking forward my vacation in
August).

    -------------------------
    GRASS 5 beta 8 release
       Wednesday, 26 July
12:00a.m. Middle European Time (as a time for final CVS update)
    -------------------------

As we want to call it a beta version.
Wouldn't it be wise to make a snapshot tarball and tag this in the CVS to
test the version a little bit before releasing it?

Dear GRASS binaries providers,

to synchronize the versions I suggest to use a tag.
So (after finishing some more fixes) I will tag the new
version:

"release_grass5beta8_26_july_2000"

It is not tagged yet. I will do this in a few hours
and post it again.

Later you can check out this version and build the
binaries. Still wanted: SGI...

Thanks for your patience,
but we are currently improving the Makefile.in stuff
and friends.
