I get errors when I try to start a monitor - it starts OK,
but cannot lock so I can't "select" it.
Oops - I figured this one out - I had write protected the
5.0b2 directory before compiling 5.0b5, then forgot to unprotect it
(/etc/locks needs to be writable).
