[GRASS5] instructions for making binaries

Markus,

in "release_rules.txt" it says that one should install GDAL and copy it to the
GRASS binaries in /usr/local/grass5/lib. However, if one does a complete
reinstall on GRASS, there is no /usr/local/grass5 before doing a 'make
install' which is mentioned later in the text. Shouldn't this be the other way
around, i.e. make install and then installation of GDAL ?

Moritz

BTW, I get a warning at the very end of the compile process:

cp: cannot stat `src/scripts/shells/create_ipcs.sh': Aucun fichier ou
répertoire de ce type
chmod: getting attributes of `/home/grass/grass5.0.0pre1/dist.i686-pc-linux-gnu
/dev/create_ipcs.sh': Aucun fichier ou répertoire de ce type

This doesn't seem to cause a problem up to now, but what does this mean ?

P.S. Do you want this kind of questions / error message in grass5 or should I
post them to grass-bug ?

thanks for the hint, that's right. For compilation libgdal is not required.
I will change the order in release_rules.txt.

BTW, I get a warning at the very end of the compile process:

Mhhh. It shouldn't appear any more as create_ipcs.sh is removed and all
cp's as well. Somewhere we probably missed to remove it. When does it
appear?

P.S. Do you want this kind of questions / error message in grass5 or should I
post them to grass-bug ?

Please to "grass5".

Thanks,

Markus

Mhhh. It shouldn't appear any more as create_ipcs.sh is removed and all
cp's as well. Somewhere we probably missed to remove it. When does it
appear?

o.k, I found it:
./src/CMD/generic/POST_INSTALL.sh

and have removed it. Glynn, shall we keep the create_fifos.sh there?

Moritz: Does it break the installation? Then we have to release pre2...
If it is just a warning, we can live with that.

Regards

Markus

o.k, I found it:
./src/CMD/generic/POST_INSTALL.sh

Ideally the FIFOs would be created by "make install", but only if
GRASS was configured with "--with-fifo".

Failing that, create_fifos.sh should probably remain so long as GRASS
supports FIFOs.

An alternative would be to have the driver create the FIFOs at
startup, using the same naming convention as with sockets.

Hi Moritz,

many thanks for building the Linux binaries. They are in place now
on the web site - available for testing.

Thanks,

Markus

PS: I will be offline 'til Sunday.

It doesn't seem to cause any problems up to now. I'm testing right now. d.rast
works well here (no speed or system resources problems), so does nviz,
apparently.

Maybe we should put up a list of modules that we can use as a test suite.
Preferably with a specific test data set. I don't even know most of the GRASS
modules, and so a list of mission critical modules to test would be good.

I'll make the binaries and ftp them in so that others can test them.

Moritz
