[GRASS5] little bugs...

Today I had an elevation data day with GRASS.

Using 5beta4 for the alphas here, I run into quite a few little
problems. (Which of course I didn't had time to fix.)

I had a couple of floating point errors. I will list them, so
that someone can give that a spin and tell me, if this is an error here
on the alphas or not.

I was inporting elevation data out of the GTOPO30 database,
available from
http://edcwww.cr.usgs.gov/landdaac/gtopo30/gtopo30.html

Importing and setting the -9990 to "no data" worked for
e100n90.tar.gz and e100n40.tar.gz.

But e060n90.tar.gz gives me a floating point error.

r.null map=dem3new setnull=-9999

Writing new data for [dem3new]... Floating point exception (core dumped)

Maybe someone can try to do the same steps on a different machine and
tell me, if this is related to my machine or to the data.

And then r.contour bombs:

r.contour input=subset output=contour step=500

Warning: Long is size 8
Reading data.

FPRange of data: min = 427.000000 max = 5242.000000

Not nice.
Well I just guess that GRASS is not ready for the alpha yet.
Or maybe using null data values doesn't work for r.contour?

Hmmm r.slope.aspect doesn't work ether, how am I going to create
a nice relive shaded map just from the DEM ? ;-/

r.slope.aspect elevation=subset slope=slope

Floating point exception (core dumped)

Greetings,

I wanted to let everyoine know that we've got the mailing
list up and are now feeding in all the addresses from cerl
(not a pretty job, especially after a 5-day weekend of
eating turkey and dressing). So we'lll post to the main list
today and will formally take over the list from cerl tomorrow.
Everyone should be in there. The new address for
the mailing list is grasslist@baylor.edu. Moderators are me,
Markus, Lisa, Ed, and Rich.

Anyone have any special requests before we let everyone
know?

Also, grass.baylor.edu webserver is up. All accounts are
scheduled to be activated this afternoon (everone on this list
has one). Use your last name as login and your password will
initially be your initials in capital letters. There's a public_html
directory in your home directory that is your own personal
webspace. The webserver/ftp server is a Sun Ultra Enterprise
256mb ram, 10/100.

Bruce

Hmm you are switching from an unmoderated to a moderated list.
I would suggest that you also create an unmoderated list or leave it
unmoderated.

I assume that you just want to meet the spamthread.
Default with other list is, that only subscribed members can post
unmoderated and only the post from people not subscribed will be moderated,
which keeps spam outsite most of the time.

Just to remind: The mailinglist archive will be in sync with that?

Great, thanks.
I will try it later.

Sounds very good.

No worries. The list is exactly the same. Moderated, yes, but
all posts still go to list as before. It's an admin thing.

Okay. So it is not a moderation of posts?
In my experience, people react a bit sensitive to changes from
non moderation to moderation. It also slows down the
turnaround time considerably, which is a major drawback.

Even if you promisse to let every mail through, it has to be
automatically in my view.

If GRASS development ist possible on this machine.
This would be a significant advantage, at least for me.
(Yes,this is a question. )
