I have written a new help page:

I have always found this page to be very useful,
  http://grass.itc.it/grass57/tutorial/links.html

As someone who knew no SQL before coming to GRASS I found the reference
guides to be invaluable.

It used to be linked to from the SQL help page but no longer.

I would cut and paste the entire "Vector attributes" section directly to
the SQL page but the whole page is interesting so I am loathe to break
it up.

in my opinion this material should be split up and added to the
individual drivers

db/drivers/odbc/odbc.html
db/drivers/sqlite/sqlite.html
