Sure, this is exactly the sort of thing I designed
GEM for. I will try and write up some better documentation
soon so people will be able to use for their benefit.
Unfortunately, things are not so easy with OpenDWG.
I contacted the developers and they do not
allow redistribution of their libs, even as binary,
non GPL-software (hmpf!).
So GEM cannot really improve anything here ...

I believe your two projects (on grass extension manager and with
fragstats for
grass) could profitably integrate. I tried r.fragstats, but I
could not get
results from it. I think that with gem more use could test it and
help make
it work properly. I believe this could be a reali improvement for
grass.Also, could gem be used for the (in)famous OpenDWG
libraries? This would also
make life easier for some grass users.
