[GRASS5] Re: GIS Cafe News for May 22, 2003, DID YOU ALL GET THIS?

Maybe I am reacting just because I can't apply my Bayesian filter on
mail like this, maybe I just want this to go into the archive, or maybe I
want to know if others find this acceptable just because it happens to be
our special interest:

Thanks, but I have not opted in for this. Be the cause however just and
topics interesting, I dislike companies and organizations that grab my
email address from mailing list archives and start spamming me.

A one time announcement with an opt-in would have been a different matter,
but regular unsolicited ... no.

Morten,

they also caught all my addresses I have. :-((

Should we scramble the email adresses in MailMan? close the
archive for robots? I am not sure what to do.

We cannot do much at this point.
Sometimes spam will get through, no matter what you do.

Too late, and probably someone from that organization is subscribing to
the grass list, so they can get the email addresses anyway.

Let's just hope they will realize they have only discredited themselves in
the Grass community by their actions, and that they will care about their
image.

The problem is different: They have obviously scanned the
GRASS mailing list archives. I get tons of spam every day
since my address is visible in these archives. So the
question is if the should manage them as currently done
or scramble our addresses there (how?).

Scambling does not help much.
We could report them to spamcop.
