3) Unpacking of the spearfish location by doubleclicking/"WinZip" using the
defaults.
Here is the problem. By default, WinZip is using 'TAR file smart
CR/LF conversion'.
If you go to Options->Configuration->Miscelaneous and disable the
TAR CR/LF conversion it should work.
Obviously this is not convenient, I think that we should probably prepare
demo data packages also in zip format.

4) Opening vectors from the spearfish location works fine.
5) Opening raster layers fails, same error message as discussed below.

Done:
http://grass.itc.it/download/data6.php
-> SPEARFISH 6.0 data set
-> tar.gz
-> zip
Enjoy

Is anyone working with command line GRASS for windows?
I'd like to know if the new GIS Manager that uses TclTk canvases instead of
x displays works with this windows-native version of GRASS and
windows-native TclTk.
Cheers

However, when trying to open any grass raster, I get the following
error:
"C:/..../locations//spearfish60/PERMANENT/cellhd/elevation.10m is not
a

Is raster processing still unstable or are maybe specific read/write
privileges to be set ?
Today I tested GRASS rasters with qgis-0.7.9-win32-060217
and Spearfish and it works for me.
Do you have other versions of GDAL on your system?
It should not be problem because Windows should first search for
DLL in the directory where application is located.
Anybody other had success/problems with GRASS rasters?
