[GRASS5] Re: .grassrc preferences file

Hi Rich,

I have added a hint concerning the env.vars on
http://www.geog.uni-hannover.de/grass/gdp/html_grass5/index.html
-> GRASS startup

(I expect a user would check that page)

Tell me if you want it to be improved. Please note that the
env_var.html page is not yet well maintained... More input to
html/env_vars.html
is very welcome.

Cheers

Markus

I cannot find reference to a preferences file. When I read the d.mon man
page I see that I can change the color depth, but that must be done manually
each time (monitorcap doesn't support this variable). Also, if I want the
default monitor window size to be larger, I have to explictly export those
variable each time, or put them in ~/.bashrc.

How much trouble would it be to add a .grassrc capability to 5? User
preferences, such as monitor window size, color depth, etc. -- and I don't
even know what else it could accommodate -- could be defined there on a
user-by-user basis. That would also provide a single place for GRASS to look
for these variables.

Thoughts?
