I was hoping no one would notice. It is for the option to use math-style
brackets. If I don't put in dots, awk doesn't count the number of fields
correctly and various parts of the legend get rearranged.
I know it is a bit of a hack, but I couldn't figure out how else to do this
and it was very late at night.
