I'm NOT a C developer, I rather do application level programming, even

I'm also planning to make an ARC/INFO workspace importer, to more all
less convert all (older) ARC/INFO
coverages from a workspace by making it as automatical as possible. It
could also be interesting.

I was testing the r.in.aster script on my aster datasets and found the following problem:

MODULE:r.in.aster v.3 for GRASS 6.0 (2005/11/4)

Current directory: [Grass] / grass6 / scripts / r.in.aster

- gdalwarp doesn't recognize the source projection system
- when I specified it manually (-s_srs), it raised an error message that there are no control pints in source file

Down below the line I attached the gdalinfo output of the HDF4 datafile (Aster L1B)

I checked that I have GDAL 1.2.6 installed in my DEBIAN Linux.
I downloaded 1.3.1 sources but during ./configure I was not able to find out what lib* or *-dev
packages should be downloaded to make it support at least GRASS. I was able to make it support HDF4 and even HDF5 and also GeoTIFF which would be enough.

Is it a GDAL problem? Or my dataset is not really what is supported? Projection IS there, UTM, Zone 32, etc...

As Maciek says, I changed r.in.aster recently to match changes in gdal 1.3.1 hdf4 parsing. If you are using an earlier version of gdal (e.g., 1.2.8), you need the older version of r.in.aster. If you are using the current version of gdal (1.3.1), you need the most recent cvs version of r.in.aster.

Subject: [GRASS5] script posting question (and sorry for earlier offtopic posting)

Hello!

I’m planning to make some new script and also some enhancements to the r.in.aster script,
as I have an aster dataset which seems to be slightly different from what the current
script could handle /this is also HDF4 but dataset names inside the
file are built up different and maybe projection information is coded different/ (maybe mine dataset is earlier?)

I’m NOT a C developer, I rather do application level programming, even this is my job, however
I’m not familiar at all with CVS and others - is it OK if I post some tips/ideas here?

I’m also planning to make an ARC/INFO workspace importer, to more all less convert all (older) ARC/INFO
coverages from a workspace by making it as automatical as possible. It could also be interesting.
Is there a collecting space on the WEB where these utilities/scripts could be posted, or all well documented
and good scripts are included in the distribution?
