I've not been closely following the development of the winGRASS port. If I
recall correctly, all of GRASS but the GUI compiled and ran. Is this
correct? Is it reasonable to expect a fully-functional winGRASS by early
next year?
My reason for asking is that I've convinced a client to let me develop a
GIS for them using GRASS rather than ARC/view or MapInfo. However, they run
only Microsoft OSes and are not likely to change too soon to linux. But,
they still have need for a spatial decision support system and this will be
a comprehensive GIS for the environmental aspects of permitting, operational
compliance and closure.
I'd appreciate some sense of what's left to be done and when it might be
there.
TIA,
Rich

Good morning Rich,
Yes, all but the GUI compiled. If I can have someone setup
a NT/2000 platform, someone who knows Grass well, then
the schedule could be met. Please see the URL
http://sources.redhat.com/cygwin/download.html for
downloading and installing the Cygwin software first.
What I would like is a test script that runs through the entire
grass system and runs every program. Not too difficult
if the grass5 list decides to contribute to it all.

John,
Thanks for the prompt response. I have a small, virtual-win98 so I can run
my GPS software, and MapInfo until the translation filter is done. But, I
will pass your message on to someone who has the hardware/OS, but not the
GRASS expertise.

Again, I don't think I can be much help here. But, I'll try to facilitate
the process.
