[GRASS5] What happened to i.grey.scale?

I just compiled the GRASS5.0.0 from the CVS and there is no i.grey.scale. I saw somewhere that it wa taken out because of some bugs? Is this true? What can I use instead of this function?

The log message documenting its removal suggest to use:

  r.colors map=... color=greq.eq
