[GRASS5] where to put gis manager?

At Markus' suggestion, I'm forwarding to the list this brief discussion
about where to put--and what to name--the GRASS GIS Manager. Please see
below.

I guess I'd recommend a new /grass6/gui directory (see below), but am open
to other ideas.

I was following the old d.m convention, but I see what you mean. We could
change this to g.m if you prefer. I didn't want to confuse it with the g.*
general modules and it isn't really a d.* display module.

Then I suggest to discuss it on the list, I just want to keep
the structure agreed/clean.

Actually, it probably belongs by itself like the old tcltkgrass directory.
Perhaps the best thing would be to create a /gui directory. Under that, we
could have directories for alternate GUIs??? e.g., tcltk or qt. I'm not sure
how to establish a naming convention since g (for gui) and I (for interface)
are already taken. U seems kind of odd, but I guess we could use it.

/gui/ sounds good as it fits into
raster/
vector/
etc.

Perhaps, the gui doesn't need to follow the C-module conventions??

Good point, yes.

I did
rename a bunch of the old d.m files that I rewrote to make them (hopefully)
easier to understand.

I know I'm kind of rambling. I'm open to your suggestions about this and
will go along with whatever you prefer.

We could ask Bernhard to move it into a gui directory. Or remove/insert?

Of course I am not the person to decide, it was just an observation.
I hope you don't mind.

Best

Markus

Michael,

sorry to comment:
let me suggest to keep the style x.y[.z] for naming
modules. But probably I am missing something.

Yes. I agree grass6/gui looks good. it is quite a bit different from the
other modules.
