[GRASS5] Why is r.to.rast3 missing?

Any reason why r.to.rast3 is missing from the normal GRASS distribution?

Are you sure this exists ?
The only things I can find in the source tree are

r3.to.rast
v.to.rast3
r3.in.rast

By the way, you seem to have replaced mentions of r.to.rast3 in the display manager, by links to the latter. See

http://grass.itc.it/pipermail/grass-commit/2005-October/018745.html

it is there - it is called r3.in.rast. I always forget the name too and look for it.

Maybe we should rename r3.in.rast to r.to.rast3 and move it into the
grass6/raster directoy,
to prevent name confusions?

btw.:
there is also a module called r3.cross.rast, which produces cross section
raster maps from 3d maps,
at my homepage. Should i rename it to r.cross.rast3?

Can r3.cross.rast get into the CVS too? This is a great tool.

I'm name neutral about this as long as I get it right and put it in the menu
correctly.

However, if I wanted to get philosophical, I'd say that you should name the
module with respect to the file type you start with for type conversion
within grass. Things starting with raster and converting to something else
should be r.to.xxx. Things starting with rast3 should be r3.to.xxx.
Currently we have r.to.vect and v.to rast for example.

It should be r3.to.xxx ; I'd say r3.to.rast; are there many more ways
to convert r3 to r besides cross-sections?

The traditional way, 3d to DEM?

I updated the menu to the correct name (r3.in.rast). Also added in
v.to.rast3 (the correct name in this case) and v.extrude.

BTW, how do you display the 3D vector produced by v.extrude? I did a funny
test using soils in the spearfish demo set and came up with a bunch of flat
vectors.

r3.to.rast slices a volume into rasters based on the vertical resolution
value.
