I changed "./configure --with-socks" to "./configure --with-socket" for
naming consistency with "--with-fifo for fifo XDriver" and
"--with-ipc for ipc XDriver".
And README.ipc renamed to README.xdriver. It's now for all new XDrivers.

Just to know: What's the default in configure? Still fifo?

I am making considerable headway on my PhD modeling and
hope to graduate this summer. That work keeps me rather
busy so forgive me if my email is a day late.
I have been using the "make install" and not the "make bindist"
to create the /usr/local distribution. In the next build (already
completed but not uploaded), I manually placed the etc/Init.sh
into /usr/local. So, I will copy etc/bin/cmd/g.gisenv as well.
Next time I will use the bindist target.

Subject: further bugs in winGRASS
Hi John,
[cc to Sebastian]
unfortunately there is another bug in current winGRASS:
grass5-20010219.zip
I have a "volunteer" testing it who reported these problems.
Isn't it possible to use
make bindist
to build the binaries? If not, what's missing? I would be
glad if all platforms can generate the binary package with
make bindist
If possible, please send etc/bin/cmd/g.gisenv in an extra
package to me (for my volunteer).
Thanks
Markus
