again I am testing GRASS on CRAY: A trap might occur if
zlib is not installed on a machine. So we need to
add two parameters to configure
ZLIBINCLUDE
ZLIBPATH
I have already added ZLIBINCLUDE to configure[.in] but it
doesn't detect my zlib.h in my $HOME/zlib/include directory
although using --with-zlib-includes=
Then ZLIBINCLUDE and ZLIBPATH have to be added to head
and maybe (?) make.mid? I am not sure.
If we don't support this extra zlib, all users without having
a default zlib and without root access will run into troubles.

I'll take a look this evening (eek, I should get some sleep!). I agree
about needing to have working --with-zlib-includes/--with-zlib-lib (??)

That's fine! Take some rest, as it is late over there!
Good night,
