[GRASSLIST:1405] Threadingproblems with mailing list

Hi,

On this mailing list threading doesn't work with Gnus. I assume, it
has to do with the number behind 'GRASSLIST:', but I'm not sure. Has
anybody else the same problem and is there any need for this number?

Gnus (the emacs newsreader) should be able to do real threading
based on the Message-IDs. mutt (a unix command line mailer) for
example can do it.

For the same reason I personally think that the
GRASSLIST prefix and the number are superfluous.
But some people are happy about it, I guess.

Best,
  Bernhard

Hi all,

may I call your attention to the following postings:

http://op.gfz-potsdam.de/GRASS-List/Archive/msg03940.html
http://op.gfz-potsdam.de/GRASS-List/Archive/msg03941.html
http://op.gfz-potsdam.de/GRASS-List/Archive/msg03950.html

They had the subject "GRASSLIST subject line"...

Regards,

Yes, thanks. I knew about the posts.
However, after adding the subject line, we have not asked people if
they are really happy with it.

For me it has (minor) drawbacks and my mail system is powerful
enough to sort mails after several criteria. Standard for
mailinglists is to have a header line which allows relyable
identification. A fix header line works a lot better than identifying
posts from the list after cc: or to: or strings in the subject line.

For the people interested, I am using the following procmail recipe
to filter mails to this list right now:

GRASS GIS user list
:0:
*^Sender: owner-GRASSLIST@baylor.edu
grass

If nobody really needs the subject line I would like to see it removed.
If somebody feels better with it, so be it.

As far as I know nobody wants this numbering. I have requested Baylor
several times to remove it without success...

Sorry, but I don't administer their mail software.
So please contact them directly, perhaps you can manage to convince
the mail-admin to change the subject.

Kind regards

As there always is somebody ...
For me the numbering has been very useful because my ISP sometimes drops
some email, so this has been a very convenient way to be sure that I
have received all information.

I hope that this numbering stays. If not I agree with majority (not like
in .. )

Cheers,
Kari

The feedback we had received was positive, until recently, in regards to the
GRASS List threading. It seems as though we can't please everyone on this
issue.
