Gail,
Thanks for the pointers,
I got hold of the 4.3 source code and r.cva source and managed to compile both.
r.cva works nicely and was just what I was looking for. This may indeed be a
very useful module for visual landscape analysis and should be included into
Grass5*. I think not many grassers are aware it exists.

Hallo fellow Australian Grass user (and other Grass users),
you can get r.cva from the following web pages courtesy of Make Lake of
UCL:
http://www.ucl.ac.uk/archaeology/staff/profiles/lake.htm
and then follow the connections
or go straight to
http://www.ucl.ac.uk/~tcrnmar/
click on GIS on the left hand frame and then r.cva.
This page has the instructions to follow etc.
It is for use with Grass 4.2 and 4.3.
best wishes,
Gail.

Hi Grasslist
I'm interested in using the r.cva module as part of our department's VRM
(Visual Resource Management) system. We need to define as seen landscape from
roads.
It appears that the module is not included in any of the binary distributions
(4.2*, 4.3 and 5.*). What is the quickest way for me to get hold of this
module
and make it work in my current system. Have installed the three binary
distributions of 4.2.12, 4.3 and 5.11 on Suse Linux 7.1.Any hints appreciated
