[GRASSLIST:2026] r.watersheds runs interminably?

I noticed a posting on the list about r.watersheds running interminably at the 5th (closing maps) stage. Has this issue been resolved? I am wondering whether I should expect my watersheds process to finish or not.

Thanks,
C.

src/raster/r.watershed/README:
r.watershed apparently does not scale well to large raster map
sizes.

Estimated complete time:
complete = 0.43 (cpu minutes) ^ 0.52

but stalling at 99% complete isn't encouraging.

If anyone has access to some computer science students that need a
project to work on, or otherwise feels keen to have a go at making the
implementation more efficient ...
