[GRASSLIST:337] Classify different kind of vegetation..

Hi guys!
Using an ECW ( res=1m), I had to classify the different vegetation on the
ground.
Anyone knows document about any approach on doing this? I have tried with
i.smap, but I'd like to try in different way.
I heard about infrared image that are better for doing this Job... any info on
where i can get those files for my zone?
