You probably all know about the quality controled GMT datasets?
They might provide a better base than DCW.

Unfortunately neither ellipsoid nor datum is known for
GMT GSHHS data. The data end up shifted (several hundred meters).
We had to find out what CIA was using in the 80s to produce
the WDB-II data which was the base of GMT GSHHS data.
