[GRASSLIST:5217] how to exit r.mapcalc ?

Gents:

I'm new to GRASS5 ... working thru some examples. Lots of stuff works, but I can't seem to get any output from the r.mapcalc "function". For examples: ADDING or MULTIPLYING two raster maps.
It might help to know "white-space" rules for simple operations, and how to LEAVE r.mapcalc without crashing the function.Neither the <man> pages nor the Leics tutorial seems to explicitly mention these basic typography.

If you run r.mapcalc interactively, use Ctrl-D (on most systems) to
terminate input.
