[GRASSLIST:5257] MrSID file import into GRASS and ... ?

I am trying to get some DOQQ files of Ohio to import into GRASS. All I
find for free is MrSID files. Does or will GRASS support MrSID files?

If not, does nayone know of GeoTiff DOQQ ifles for Ohio?

The MrSID format uses a patented compression algorithm, so it will
likely never be supported.

You can get the original data from USGS, but it'll cost. Benefit is,
the data wouldn't have lost information due to MrSID compression (which
is lossy).
