[GRASSLIST:6141] Data Set to promote GRASS

I wish to promote and Introduce GRASS to Students of Engineering Collge.
So looking for good presentation on GRASS. Please let me know any good
source for that.

For the same objective, I tried following data sets.

SPEARFISH for GRASS 5.7

It appers to be working fine, but there is script in this data which may
show full potential od GRASS and this data set.

Fire simulation data set

There appears to be good script. But on GRASS-Beta2, it gave
"segmentation fault".

./firedemo.sh: line 22: 1398 Segmentation fault

See below signature detail of "log".

I am using it on Debian. Is there problem with GRASS-Beta2 or with
dataset?

Can you suggest any other good dataset or how to remove this
"segmanttation fault"? Or other link to good promotional material.

For the list,

Is there attribute data to attach to the Spearfish vectors? That way it
could also be use to demo and test the nice data management and query
functions now an integral part of GRASS 6.

Michael,

yes, there are lot's of data available for the Spearfish region:

boundaries (cities, counties, state), elevation contours, rivers and
streams, railroads, etc. The data is in 1:100,000 scale (complete for the
entire state) and 1:24,000 scale formats (some layers are incomplete for
statewide data; transportation is complete at 1:24,000).

TIGER (Topologically Integrated Geographic Encoding and Referencing system):
http://www.census.gov/geo/www/tiger/index.html
What is TIGER data
The TIGER/Line files are a digital database of geographic features, such as
roads, railroads, rivers, lakes, legal boundaries, census statistical
boundaries, etc. covering the entire United States. The data base contains
information about these features such as their location in latitude and
longitude, the name, the type of feature, address ranges for most streets,
the geographic relationship to other features, and other related
information. They are the public product created from the Census Bureau's
TIGER database.

Some volunteer needed to improve the Spearfish data set...

Hope this helps
