[GRASSLIST:7014] Starting GRASS 6

Hello,

I’m running OSX 10.4. I’ve just downloaded and installed Grass-OSX-6.0.0-1.dmg. I’ve installed the Tiger Patch, and am attempting to open GRASS. Double-cliking on the GRASS icon opens the Grass 6.0 startup window. I leave the startup settings in the default modes (graphic and OS X). When I click on “Start” I receive the following message in a terminal window:

xterm: Can’t execvp /Applications/Grass/grass60.app/Contents/Resources/grass-6.1.cvs/grass61: No such file or directory

I’ll appreciate any help or suggestions

It looks like there is an issue with the startup script. This is odd as I don’t think that Lorenzo hasn’t changed 6.0. I think it is pretty easy to fix and am copying Lorenzo.

That said, I’d highly recommend running 6.1 cvs from Lorenzo’s site. There have been many improvements since 6.0 was released in March. 6.1 is highly stable on a Mac—at least as stable as 6.0, if not more so.

The current cvs binary is from 28 May. I’m using it with no problems. Lorenzo seems to be releasing them on an almost weekly basis so there might be an even newer one out soon. Note that the 28 May release runs on OSX 10.4 as well as 10.3 (I don’t know about 10.2).

You have an old patch that worked in an old 6.1.cvs.
Please download the patch for 6.0.0:

GRASS 6.0.0 PATCH FOR MAC OS X 10.4.x (updated)

This patch is only for Grass 6.0.0 and it works in any operating system: 10.2.x, 10.3.x and 10.4.x.

Unzip the folder and you have 2 files: this “README” file and “script.scpt” file.

INSTALL

  • exit from Grass and X11 application;
  • go to your Grass folder, usually /Applications/Grass folder and open your grass60.app application;
  • select grass60 icon, press ctrl key and a clic on mouse and you see the menu where you select “Show Package Contents”;
  • go to “grass60.app/Contents/Resources/Scripts” folder;
  • inside you see 1 file with the name “script.scpt”;
  • substitute this file with the new file with the same name “script.scpt” inside “grass60-patch-OSX-10.4” folder;
  • done

Run now grass60 and press START button to start.

Remember: last 6.1.cvs (http://wwwamb.bologna.enea.it/forgrass/downloadcvs.htm) it’s already Tiger compatible: no patch is need.
You can use last Grass 6.1.cvs because it has many new features: it requires the presence of grass60.app in /Applications/Grass folder.

If you use old Grass 5.4.0 you can apply the patch for Tiger: http://wwwamb.bologna.enea.it/forgrass/files/grass54-patch-OSX-10.4.zip

Thanks for the responses. I've installed the correct Tiger patch, and 6.0 is now working. I've also downloaded 6.1cvs, which is also working well.

i appreciate the help.
