[GRASSLIST:7106] Re: DXF to Grass dataset

Hi,
the import of DXF is not a problem and we have been doing it.
It is a WISH THAT

  1. If the TEXT inside a polygon automatically becomes it’s attribute after import into GRASS!!\
It would save a lot of time.
May be the developers of GRASS may kindly consider this aspect… in the next GRASS CVS release…

I don’t know if this is what you expected but to some extent
you can import the DXF file.

Hi,
Iam attaching a small 1:50000 scale geological map,
which is scanned and vectorised manually by a
draftsman.

When this is imported into ARC-INFO, the inscribed
text in each Geological polygon becomes its attribute.

This is a very quick method,

  1. where all the digitization is done by the not so
    computer savvy draftsmen
  2. Then the Geologist imports it into ARC-INFO to
convert into a digital data with a vital link
    attribute.
  3. The geologist then attaches an external database
    table using this link attribute.

If U can make such a thing possible in grass, then we
can use OGLed Qcad on linux, for the draftsmen and
GRASS for the Geologists.
