[GRASSLIST:722] How to handle ArcView vector data on GRASS

Dear GRASS users

I'm a beginner of GRASS.
I have some ArcView vector data. I want to handle them on GRASS.
GRASS has command to import, v.in.arc.
QUESTION:
1)What kind of data can "v.in.arc" command accept?
2)Can "v.in.arc" command handle data of ArcView ".shp" file on GRASS?
ex)
v.in.arc road.shp

In short, I want to handle ArcView vector data ".shp" file on GRASS and how to use v.in.arc command.
Please give me your suggestion.
