Does anyone know sth about tool, command or other utilities that allows to transform text (label) to polygons?
Maybe someone of you know other software with such a capabilities?

output to postscript then autotrace? *CAD?

Adobe Illustrator does this - menu Type - Create Outlines. You could save as dxf & reimport into GRASS if necessary.
