[GRASSLIST:9830] GRASS, GFOSS Foundation and PGL

Hey folks,

Pardon the cross posting through BCC.

Recent postings on the international GRASS mailing list "Talking about an umbrella GFOSS foundation" got me thinking. There is of course a strong argument for moving towards a foundation model for GFOSS. Also, there may be an equaly strong argument to move Data licenses towards a foundation model as well. The question to ask is if software and data licenses could exist within the same foundation without impeding the independent evolution of the two.

The next question is if there is more connection between the PGL and GPL as licenses or PGL and GRASS (GFOSS) as geographic issues.

This would be a perfect opportunity to go the next step and include the Public Geodata License (PGL) in a strong foundation
