GSoC 2026 : Week-1 Report (June 2 - June 8)

Hello everyone,

This is my report for Week 1 of the GSoC coding period, in which I enlist the tasks I fulfilled during the week.

Any feedback, comments, and suggestions are welcome.

Weekly Report (June 2nd - June 8th)

I performed the following tasks during this week:

  • Participated in multiple discussions with mentors to better understand the intended behavior and use cases of the proposed as_of and from_to functionalities.

  • Analyzed the conceptual differences between:

    • as_of, which allows users to view the state of resources at a specific point in time.

    • from_to, which allows users to explore how resources evolve over a selected time interval.

  • Explored the existing istSOS interface to identify suitable integration points for the new controls while minimizing disruption to the current user experience.

  • Researched various platforms, applications, and data management systems that support historical views, temporal navigation, versioned data access, and time-travel style queries.

  • Investigated different approaches adopted by such systems for implementing point-in-time views and interval-based history exploration.

  • Based on the research findings and mentor discussions, designed multiple UI approaches for both as_of and from_to functionalities.

  • Created initial mockups illustrating different user interaction flows and interface layouts.

  • Documented the rationale behind various design choices and identified potential implementation considerations for the development phase.

Details can be found in:

What do I plan to do next week?

  • Continue discussions with mentors to finalize the design and implementation approach for the Time Travel Queries feature.

  • Refine the mockups further based on the feedback received during the review process.

  • Finalize the UI/UX workflow for both as_of and from_to functionalities.

  • Document the expected behavior, API interactions, and user flows associated with the finalized design.

  • Set up and familiarize myself with the relevant frontend and backend code paths involved in the implementation.

  • Prepare a detailed implementation plan.

  • Begin implementing the initial prototype after obtaining mentor approval on the final design.

Am I blocked on anything?

  • No, currently I do not have any blocking issues.
