There is an r.tiff (name may not be exact) module for grass floating abound the
net which read tiff files and I got it to work with some difficulty on Tenon
Macintosh unix a couple of years ago. If you can't find it on the net I can look
for it in my backup files. (The mac is no longer my prime machine so it might be
a while to find it).
