New contributor introducing myself and looking to get involved with PostGIS/pgRouting ahead of GSoC 2027.

Tell us about yourself

Hi everyone,

I’m Aman, a Civil Engineering student at NIT Goa, preparing for
GSoC 2027. I’ve been contributing documentation PRs to pgRouting
and working on a PostGIS-based infrastructure management project
(geometry columns, spatial proximity search).

Looking forward to engaging with the community and learning from
past GSoC experiences here.

What do you want to learn / contribute

I want to contribute to pgRouting and PostGIS as part of preparing
for GSoC 2027. I’m particularly interested in the spatial/geometry
side (PostGIS, spatial queries) since I’ve been building similar
features in my own project. I’d love guidance on beginner-to-intermediate
tasks that could help me build toward a stronger GSoC application.

I need an OSGeo account for the following (ctrl+click all that apply)

Report a bug about osgeo, postgis, or osgeo4w, note other projects do not need an account
Edit wiki.osgeo.org
Publish a QGIS plugin (you need one only if you don’t have a gitlab, github, or gmail account)
Translate a project on https://weblate.osgeo.org
GeoForAll Participation
Become a google summer of code participant
Create a repository or contribute to a repository on git.osgeo.org
Publish a new community project on osgeo.org
Other - make sure to specify why in your description

Aman,

Hi and thanks for your interest. I’m a member of both the pgRouting and PostGIS dev teams.

Too early for an osgeo account. We don’t give those until you are accepted for GSoC or need to contribute in wiki or weblate beforehand.

For pgRouting - introduce yourself in pgrouting-dev - OSGeo Discourse if you haven’t already (please note that to post to that, you need to join the pgrouting-dev group - pgrouting-dev - OSGeo Discourse. pgRouting folks also hang out in matrix channel - https://matrix.to/#/#pgrouting:osgeo.org

As far as PostGIS goes, we rarely register for GSoC, but if your project is interesting enough one of us in PostGIS team might be interested in mentoring. Best place to discuss ideas for PostGIS is on the PostGIS Dev mailing list here - The postgis-devel Archives or the IRC/Matrix channel - https://matrix.to/#/#postgis:osgeo.org (libera:postgis)

Thank you so much, robe — this is really helpful. I’ll go ahead and introduce myself in pgrouting-dev now, and I’ll check out the Matrix channels too. Really appreciate you pointing me in the right direction
