I had similar problems running NCD's PC-Xware on a PC connected to a SUN, until I set the number of colors used in windows on the PC to 256 to match what was being sent by GRASS. Matching the resolution between the two systems may also help.

Hello,
I want to use MicroX-win X emulation software to run
GRASS 4.1 on a PC. A SUN with Solaris 2.3 is the client.
The x-software works, GRASS on Solaris works on the workstation,
but here is the error I get when I run d.mon start=x0 on the PC:
X Error: Bad Match
Request Major code 78()
Error Serial #265
Current Serial #266
Then it goes into its Please start graphics monitor error mode.
The setenv DISPLAY is set as the PC's IP number.
Any suggestions? I found similar error messages in the archives, but
could not find any solutions.
