problem with lock in GIS.sh in beta 6 ?

I just installed v5beta6 and things seemed to go well, but
when 'grass5.0beta' runs GIS.sh, 'lock' produces a segmetation fault.

/usr/local/grass5b/etc/GIS.sh: line 23: 436 Segmentaiton fault $ETC/lock
$lockfile $$

I checked and $ETC /usr/local/grass5b/etc, $lockfile is /home/matt/.gislock5,
with permissions there now as: -rw-rw-rw , and the process id seems right.

What's likely wrong?
