Problems downloading GRASS Sun4 binaries

Hi,

I presume this is the address of the GRASS users mailing list.

my message of a few weeks ago will have gone un-noticed by me. I appologise for
my inexperience! Here is my problem...

I have been trying to download GRASS 4.1. Sun4 binaries via ftp. The
download goes OK and I get 80 one meg. files called bin.upd3.cpio.Z.0001 etc.
I then issue the recommended command :

  cat bin.upd3.cpio.Z.* | zcat | (cd /mydirectory; cpio -icdu)

... and things go OK until about half way through the decompression and
unarchiving when /mydirectory fills up with junk file names and junk
directory names. I also get a few complaints about bad input on stderr.
Its difficult to tell whether zcat is having trouble or whether cpio is having
trouble (I understand that zcat may not know if it is uncompressing badly
compressed data - and hence may not report errors even if they are there).

By trial and error I've determined that the problem starts at around file 24
out of 80 (although at one stage it seemed to start at around file 33).
I've re-ftped all the files several times using different
ftp modes and different ftp mirror sites (as well as directly to moon). I've
paid particular attention to files between 20 and 40 out of 80. I've tried
using cpio and zcat (uncompress) in different ways but to no avail.

I'm pretty much out of ideas - does anyone have a suggestion or two?

Thanks in advance,
