I've selected our driver with ps.select and when I run my ps.map input file
I successfully get an output postscript format file which I then can plot

or should grass be set up to do this automattically (as p.map is)? Please send any responses directly to me as I am not a subscriber to this

Currently, you have to use the Unix command lpr to send your output. Setting the
driver with ps.select only defines the output's file language (postscript)
including the paper and image size. You can send this postscript file to any
printer capable of supporting this size (and color) definition.
Someone could incorporate such Unix commands with map output programs into
a GUI to answer your question. Such an animal may be close to practical reality.
Stayed tuned.
