r.in.tiff- problem with import *.tif

2) Set your region to match your newly created raster file:
  g.region rast=name_of_output_of_r.tiff
  d.erase
  d.rast name_of_output_of_r.tiff

3) If the image is grayscale, set the color table to a histogram
equalized gray scale:
  r.colors map=name_of_output_of_r.tiff color=grey.eq

One of these steps will most likely take care of your problem. Good luck,
