However the problem you are having seems to be related to
input/output part of r.thin which I did not change. What version are you using, 4.0 or 4.1beta?
In any case I am familiar with the code and will look for a problem.
please put your data on incoming directory on moon
and email me.

I have put the file contourlzw.tiff in grass/incoming. It is LZW
compressed, but Xv should be able to read it (I'm not sure about
the PBM utility tifftopnm) and convert to pbm if the new r.in.tiff
doesn't do it.
I get my error message in Grass 4.0 - haven't tried it yet in 4.1.
If I use r.thin on an 1290 x 650 image, it does not complain. However,
for r.thin to be useful to me, it should be able to handle at least a 300 dpi
scan of a 5" by 5" area of a 1:10.000 map; this means 1500 x 1500 cells
for one square kilometer of information.
Thanks for helping me!
