(I guess it is in the header) and how to skip that header.

Although this document describes the Canadian version of dted, the
differences between the specs are described, so it may help you anyway.
Physical file description begins on page 5. I used to have the dted spec
doc (~20 pages). If the cded specs don't help, I'll see if I can
resurrect it.
