Yes, we are definitely working on implementing full locking, as
Transactions need locking to be secure. We're going to try to get that in
the release following the april 11th release. It might not be super
efficient at first, but we do want to get fully spec compliant soon.

Good luck with the installs,

Chris

Thank you very much for your answer. It sounds very nice.
I think I'll wait until April 11th for implementing it.
Before installing Geoserver, I have also to install Postgresql/Postgis,
Mapserver and all the needed libraries as I start on "blank" servers.
Do you plan to implement the full LockFeature operations in a further
version ?

Thanks
Paul

Subject: Re: [Geoserver-devel] Basic WFS or Transaction WFS

GeoServer is a "Transaction WFS". Transactional support was added a few
months ago, and should be pretty solid, though it is still in beta, and
could use a few more beta testers. The optional LockFeature operations
are not fully implemented (currently only does full featureType locking,
can not handle filters, and it's only in cvs, not in the downloadable
version), but they are not required to be a Transaction WFS. The
Geoserver WFS server should suit your needs for the vector part of the
project, if you're willing to get your hands dirty for a little final
beta testing, or if you can wait a few months for the fully tested and
certified 1.0 release. I'm going to try to put out the next release out
by april 11th, which will attempt to hit full 1.0 spec compliance (this
is _not_ the 1.0 release, we need more testing for that) on all the
basic and transactional operations. Most of the code for that release
is already in cvs, so if you want to check it out from there you'll get
the latest version. I just need to write unit tests for the latest
stuff and re-write some of the documentation. I just added support for
multiple namespaces, which changes the configuration (current users of
geoserver should be fine, as it's all backwards compatible). And then
of course I need to test everything again before putting it out.

Also, if you're working with the latest download, note that you probably

will run into a disappointing bug that you run into right away, when you

do a the first GetCapabilities from a browser you will probably get an
exception. But I think it should work if you specify the version:
http://localhost:8081/GetCapabilities?version=1.0.0 . Yes, this bug is
fixed on cvs and in the next version.

Hope this helps,

Chris
