RE: [Geoserver-devel] [jira] Created: (GEOS-598) Enable GeoServer to function behind a reverse proxy.

Hey,

i’ve been meaning to ask about this one for a bit now… yes the ability to specify the ‘external url’ including host, base geoserver directory and port … would be great… and for this to be specified per service, so wfs, wms, wcs etc could all have different ones.

Subject: [Geoserver-devel] [jira] Created: (GEOS-598) Enable GeoServer to function behind a reverse proxy.

Enable GeoServer to function behind a reverse proxy.

Key: GEOS-598
URL: http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/GEOS-598

Project: GeoServer
Type: Improvement

Components: Configuration
Versions: 1.3.0
Environment: Not applicable.
Reporter: Corey Puffalt
Assigned to: dblasby

Due to security constraints it is sometimes required to run GeoServer on an internal machine that isn’t directly exposed to the internet. Instead, a reverse proxy is configured on a machine in the DMZ to forward traffic to the internal machine.

Today, this setup is only partially functional in GeoServer. The problem is the URLs that are embedded in the getCapabilities requests for both WMS and WFS. These URLs reflect the hostname/port etc of the internal machine instead of the proxy host. What is needed is a configuration option to specify the base URL for the proxy host.

If there is interest in this functionality I can provide patches.
