RE: [Geoserver-users] GeoServer 1.3.1-beta release

It should probably be mentioned that other people may come across the
same kind of thing if they are running geoserver and coldfusion servers
under jrun on the same machine. It only happened to me because we had
another developer using geotools with coldfusion for a project that I'm
not involved in, and hence had no idea she was using it.

Coldfusion, for some reason, modifies Jrun's default JVM configuration.
All Jrun's servers (even though they are running as separate processes)
use the same configuration by default. Coldfusion adds its own library
path as a JNI library path to this configuration.

That means any libraries that coldfusion uses, geoserver will use by
default too, even though they are running under separate processes.

To rectify, either coldfusion or geoserver should be set to use a custom
JVM configuration.

The details of how to make a Jrun server start using a custom
configuration can be found at http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_18206/.

All I did was copied the default JVM configuration and removed any
references to coldfusion, then applied it as a custom configuration to
geoserver.

I can put this in the wiki if somebody would let me know where to put
it.

I think you were right about the duplicate class Justin.

I found a geotools2 jar in the global lib directory of Jrun
for some reason, which is probably causing all the problems.

Maybe put it under the FAQ, or just under http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GEOSDOC/Data+Configuration as a child page so it will appear in the documentation tree.

Thanks for the good report on the issue Miles.

In my experience a NoSuchMethodError usually means one of

two things:

1. Duplicate entries of a class on your classpath
2. A java 4 vs java 5 problem.

The GeoServer team is proud to announce the beta release of
GeoServer 1.3.1. The main change in this release is the addition of GeoTools 2.2.x that includes many new features, bug fixes, and an improved renderer.

You can download the release here:
http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GEOS/Latest

Remember that it is a beta version and not recommended for a
production environment. But please try it out and give us feedback. An

official

1.3.1 release should be out shortly containing all of the

1.3.1 Jira

tasks, including PDF output support.
