RE: [GRASS-dev] gis.m or d.m - can we make it optional?

Hi everybody!

I also would be very strongly in favor of this feature. There is
currently some functionality that is easier to achieve in d.m rather
than in gis.m

Subject: [GRASS-dev] gis.m or d.m - can we make it optional?

Dear List,

after having two great tcltk-based GRASS-GUIs I would love to have an
option, env-var, or something else to change the default manager to
ether gis.m or d.m.

It would be nice if the last used manager would be somewhat
"recognized" by GRASS like the -gui or -text selection when you start
GRASS next time.

I think this could be implemented somewhere in Init.sh, but I
could not
find where this file is generated during compilation.

What would you think about that?

Best

I also like to have this done. I have prepared a simple patch which
"hacks" this one in.

Perhaps someone can have a look at the patch and correct it.

Couldn't we add another option "-qgis.m" to start qgis from within grass directly?

Not a good Idea afaik, because QGIS is a separate program and d.m is
part of GRASS.

So the coding effort is probably not worth than typing qgis& inside the
grass-promt afterwards.

just my 2¢

Please note, however, that in current dev version of qgis this is not needed (just activating the grass plugin will suffice).
All the best.
