[Re: [GRASS5] GRASS in Windows95/98]

I figured out part of my problem in opening grass is that I have to
configure it and I have not gotten the configuration program to work properly
yet..
As far as the rast.to.vect command I may have the command incorrect, but
what I am attempting to do is to convert images of architectural drawings of
an archaeological site that are at this moment in Tiffs into vecter dxf files.
I am certain that this was done in GRASS when I did it as a student. I hope it
wasn't in another program such as Idrisi or such.

Thanks
Brad

Since XGrass was removed you do not need X11R6.4.

Are there Fortran components in Grass? I can't remember
off hand. If you develop then yes, otherwise no.

Help me out with the rast.to.vect command. I cannot find
this in the Grass5 source. What command are you looking
for?

John

Do I still need all the other bits such as g77 and X11R6.4 to get GRASS
to
work or all I need is the preconfigured downloads?
For the moment all I need is to get the rast.to.vect to work. Though I
would like to get a DEM going, but without a monitor it may not be much

use.

Brad,

One of the things that Cygnus does not do for you
is set up the /bin connections. So, you have two
choices, use a symbolic link or use a mount.

Please tell me which system you are using and I can
help you better. Do a `cygcheck -v -s -r` and email
the output to me.

To do a link to wherever the Cygwin bin is installed.
first execute a bash shell, and do the
`ln -s /Cygwin/bin /bin`

To do it as a mount point, run a CMD window and
mkdir c:\bin, and run the command
`mount -b c:\Cygwin\bin /bin`

The configure and make system will now work.

Both commands above assume that you are using
Cygwin 1.1.2 and installed it under C:\Cygwin.
If you are using 95/98 I recommend upgrading
to NT or 2000. The video display drivers are
much better.
