The header problem I detailed above is a red herring. I converted the
rasters to integer and the headers are now fine but i.cluster still doesn't
work.
I am fresh out of ideas.

Hi Marc,
which GRASS 5 version are you using? There was a fix for i.cluster
in current release. So GRASS 5 beta 5 *should* have a working
i.cluster. If not, please let me know. Otherwise, if you are
using an older GRASS version, please upgrade.
