  Thanks for responding... yes I thought that was necessary too.
But a year ago or so, Peter Strong of NPS Denver, gave me file that was
installed in a directory like /usr/lang/SC0.0 the file is called
libF77so.1.1 and that worked for a long time. I use s.db.rim regularily
but I fooled around with some permissions and now it s.db.rim gives that
message

  ld.so: libF77.so.1: not found

so I thought it would be fixable with the F77 compiler.
