Hello -
This is not grass specific but has anyone gotten the fold creases out of a folded map before scanning? I have several folded maps to scan and am thinking of ironing them but I would consider other options (including software). Suggestion for iron settings are also appreciated (steam or dry high or low) Searching the net returned no hits.
Thanx

Bob,
I once worked in a blueprint reproduction shop. We used a
vacuum table to flatten articles with creases that needed
to be reproduced.
You may be able to find one locally that could make a reproduction
of your map/s that would scan well.
I would be reluctant to 'iron' a paper map, fearing that it would
skew the printed image introducing other irregularities.

people who fold maps should be dropped off a cliff.
seriously, if you can't get another, unfolded, copy of the map, ironing is probably your best option. using a steam setting (not too hot) would expand the paper fibres, and help get rid of the folds.

Good suggestion David,
But be sure you place a towel between the iron and the
map (like a bath towel). You wouldn't want your map to
scorch or burst into flames.
Hope that helps as well.

Having done a bit of paper ironing including maps I suggest you use what
is known as a tea towel or get a pressing pad (used for ironing wool
garments). Place the map face down on a flat hard surface, place the tea
towel/pressing pad over the map, and lightly and uniformly mist it. Then
using a slightly less than cotton heat _dry_ iron with very little
pressure. Actually press rather than sliding the iron around.
If this doesn't get the wrinkles out let the map and pad cool then try
again but this time have the iron set to steam. If this still doesn't
work you're on you own. Try other combinations that seem right.
How's this for a listing on the uselessknowledge site!!!
