Site values & Informix access and spreadsheets

JM Roques writes:

I would like to display, interactively, some values stored in a informix database related to site points (actually measures from rain gauges acquired with a fixed time step into the data base).

These values should appear in a "looking like" spreadsheet, and eventually be plotted on the screen.

Direct access to informix is provided by the grass-informix tools (should
be somewhere in your src.garden directory, if you want to compile it). This
does a basic manipulation of sites, vector and raster files in order to
display them on the screen according to an SQL query statement.

With grass, which we are still far from mastering, i thought of using the database links modules (i heard about them but which and where are they, and how to use them ?), and functions as d.sites, d.icons & p.icons for caracterising the gauges, then d.m

en> u and d.what.vect for selections, d.points and d.graphs for graphic displays...

I did not see any function for spreadsheet editing.

No, I don't think there is one. You might consider writing a link between
informix and d.gnuplot for display of graphics; this should not be very
difficult in informix 4GL.

before we start trying this (without help it sure will take us the whole summer and fall ...), has someone done something similar, and can he give me some hints on the best way to achieve this?
Or should i give up and go to Arc/Info  ?

Come on, you're not being soft, are you?
